Recognition Societies
The University of Chicago is pleased to honor the philanthropic support of its alumni and friends in order to foster life-long partnerships and to build community with these highly motivated individuals, foundations, and corporations. Their invaluable support allows the University to make advances in important areas such as medicine, the sciences, education, law, business, the arts and culture, and community development.
Chicago Society
The Chicago Society recognizes the generous men and women who, each year, support the University of Chicago with annual leadership gifts of $2,500 or more. Their support ranges from annual fund gifts that allow Deans to address their most urgent and critical needs to endowed fellowships and scholarships that bring to Chicago the nation’s brightest young students, who may have not been able to attend the University without financial aid.
Harper Society
Named for the University’s first president, William Rainey Harper, the Harper Society recognizes donors whose cumulative gifts in support of the University total $500,000 or more.
Phoenix Society
The Phoenix Society honors individuals who make estate commitments or life-income arrangements to benefit the University. The gifts provide important ways to strengthen and sustain the University's future. In selecting the phoenix as its symbol, the Trustees wish to recognize the vibrant link between the University's history and its future.
