The Phoenix Society
The Phoenix Society honors individuals who make estate commitments or life-income arrangements to benefit the University. The gifts provide important ways to strengthen and sustain the University’s future. In selecting the phoenix as its symbol, the Trustees wish to recognize the vibrant link between the University’s history and its future.
We are pleased to invite you to join this unique society. Membership is extended to individuals who make one of the following commitments to the University:
- Include the University of Chicago in their estate plans;
- Create a charitable life-income arrangement (a charitable gift annuity, a charitable remainder trust or pooled income fund gift) or a charitable lead trust to benefit the University;
- Name the University as a beneficiary of retirement assets or life insurance; or
- Donate a personal residence or a vacation home to the University and reserve a life estate. Members of the Phoenix Society will receive a special memento and will be invited to exclusive University events, both on campus and in various cities around the country. We are also proud to recognize our members in an annual Honor Roll.
For more information about the Phoenix Society, please contact Barbara Pitts, Director in the Office of Gift Planning, (773) 702-1169 or bepitts@uchicago.edu.
